Animal Physiology > Homeostasis > Topic 1: Ben's Bad Day

(1 of 2)

Meet Ben, a sophomore at UW-Madison. Ben stayed up all night at the Infolab writing a history paper and studying for a biology exam. At 6 AM, Ben fell asleep, hunched over a computer desk.

Ben will need his sleep because he is about to have a BAD day! He will experience many challenges to his homeostasis.

What you'll learn in this topic

  • some of the variables (such as blood pH and glucose) maintained by homeostasis
  • what happens when these variables get "out of whack"
  • how different parts of the body work together to restore homeostasis.

Your task is to use this information to help restore Ben's homeostasis at critical times during his day. Of course, homeostasis in the real Ben is automatic, but imagine that you are in control!
